The Power of Choice: How to Live a Life that Honors God
Do you want to spend eternity with God? It’s your choice. We can’t force anyone to make a choice, but we can encourage them to consider all the options and make an informed decision. Every day, we are faced with choices big and small. Some choices may seem inconsequential while others could alter the course of our lives. It’s up to us to weigh the options, consider the consequences and make the best choice possible.
As Christians, we are called to make choices that honor God and align with His will. We are not perfect, and we will make mistakes, but we can trust that God will help us make the right choices if we seek his guidance. It is essential to remember that our choices not only affect ourselves but also those around us. We have a responsibility to make choices that promote love, kindness, and compassion and avoid those that cause harm or spread negativity.
Remember this always, everything in life revolves around the choices we make. We must choose wisely and trust God to guide us in every decision we face. Remember, Jesus is always waiting for us to choose Him, and with Him, we can make the best choices and fulfill our purposes in life.
How to Make Godly Choices
Making choices that honor God is not always easy, but it is possible if we follow some simple steps:
Pray: Before making any choice, we should pray and ask God for wisdom and direction. He knows what is best for us and He will never lead us astray. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Read the Bible: The Bible is God’s word and it contains His principles and commands for living a godly life. By reading and studying the Bible, we can learn what God expects from us and how He wants us to live. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Seek godly counsel: Sometimes we need the advice and input of other Christians who can help us see things from a different perspective and point out any potential pitfalls or dangers. We should seek counsel from people who are mature in their faith and who have our best interests at heart. Proverbs 15:22 says, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”
Evaluate the options: After praying, reading the Bible, and seeking godly counsel, we should evaluate the options and see which one is most consistent with God’s will and word. We should ask ourselves questions like: Does this option glorify God? Does this option edify others? Does this option align with biblical values? Does this option have positive or negative consequences? Does this option bring peace or anxiety?
Choose: After evaluating the options, we should choose the one that we believe is most pleasing to God and follow through with it. We should not second-guess ourselves or be swayed by peer pressure or worldly influences. We should trust that God will bless our choice and work everything out for our good. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
The Benefits of Making Godly Choices
Making choices that honor God has many benefits for ourselves and others. Some of these benefits are:
Joy: When we make choices that please God, we experience joy in our hearts because we know that we are doing what is right and good. Joy is not dependent on our circumstances or feelings, but on our relationship with God. Psalm 16:11 says, “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
Peace: When we make choices that align with God’s will, we experience peace in our minds because we are not worried about the outcome or the consequences. Peace is not the absence of problems or conflicts, but the presence of God’s assurance and protection. Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Growth: When we make choices that challenge us to grow in our faith and character, we experience growth in our lives because we are becoming more like Christ. Growth is not measured by how much we know or do, but by how much we love and serve. Ephesians 4:15 says, “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.”
Influence: When we make choices that impact others positively, we experience influence in our world because we are shining God’s light and sharing His love. Influence is not about how many people we reach or impress, but about how many people we inspire and bless. Matthew 5:16 says, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
The Power of Choice: A Gift and a Responsibility
God has given us the power of choice as a gift and a responsibility. He has given us the freedom to choose, but He has also given us the responsibility to choose wisely. He has given us the ability to choose, but He has also given us the accountability to face the consequences of our choices. He has given us the opportunity to choose, but He has also given us the privilege to choose Him.
The power of choice is a precious gift that we should not take for granted or abuse. It is a powerful tool that we should use for God’s glory and our good. It is a wonderful blessing that we should cherish and share.
The power of choice is also a serious responsibility that we should not neglect or misuse. It is a weighty duty that we should fulfill with God’s help and guidance. It is a solemn obligation that we should honor and respect.
The power of choice is what makes us human and what makes us Christian. It is what sets us apart from the rest of creation and what connects us to our Creator. It is what defines our lives and what determines our destinies.
The power of choice is ours to use or lose, to embrace or reject, to enjoy or regret.
What will you choose today?
